Roma winger, Liverpool target, former Liverpool target and former Chelsea player Mohammed Salah's move to Liverpool took a step nearer to reality today with him due to fly to the UK this evening.
Ramón Verdejo, the 48 year old director of football at Roma, is already understood to be in the UK.
The reds have had a £28M offer rejected. Roma are hoping for closer to £40M for the Egyptian star, but the final figure is set to be negotiated in between.
Liverpool are unlikely to break their existing £35M transfer record for the player, although the total potential package of the deal could be above this figure.
That would represent good business for Roma who only completed the purchase of Salah from Chelsea last summer, for a price of £12M.
They had already paid a £3M loan fee in the 2015-16 season.
The reds had originally been interested in the player back in January 2014 but he joined Chelsea. He lasted just 12 months at Stamford Bridge - he was loaned to Italian side Fiorentina in the winter of 2015.
His two and a half seasons in Serie A have seen him net 43 goals in 109 appearances - a significant improvement on the 2 goals in 19 Premier League games he had in London.
Assuming terms of a deal can be agreed then a medical may take place later this week before the player is confirmed as a new signing.
The number 9 shirt at Liverpool is currently vacant.
