Daniel Agger's agent has confirmed that Liverpool rejected a bid from Barcelona for the player.
Barcelona have been tracking the player for at least 18 months, monitoring his injury status.
The player's agent, Per Steffensen, said:
“We are aware that Barcelona have made an offer for Daniel that Liverpool have rejected.
“Daniel has a contract with Liverpool for three years and it would be up to the clubs to agree a fee for his transfer in order for that to change.”
The bid was rumoured to be around £15M.
Several media outlets have been insistent that Agger remains open-minded about the possibility of a move.
Brendan Rodgers has publically backed Agger's loyalty in recent days and the Danish defender has been handed the Liverpool vice captaincy, so any transfer would be a significant blow to not just the club but to Brendan himself.
Agger has missed the last two friendly games after suffering a knock late on during Steven Gerrard's testimonial game just over a week ago.
Barca must come in with an improved bid of £20 million and Liverpool will surely sell and buy another young potential for £5 million. Looks like Liverpool will retain the services of numbskull Skertle for another season. The PSV centre back will surely sign for Spurs, while the Greek beast Papadapolous will sign for Stoke and face Liverpool on the opening day. Meanwhile Brendan Rodgers smokes the Liverpool fans that there is money to be spent but on the right players.
