Brendan Rodgers hopes to make Fabio Borini his first Liverpool signing later this week.
Liverpool have been short of a third striker in their line up and the 21 year old Roma striker spent time earlier in his career at Chelsea and on loan at Swansea City under the stewardship of Brendan Rodgers.
In a press conference yesterday, Rodgers highlighted his determination to conclude a couple of existing transfer deals in the pipeline.
"We hope to complete a deal this week which will be a real exciting one for the club.
"He will be terrific, I'm sure. And the supporters will absolutely love him.
"Going forward hopefully we can bring maybe two or three more and then with the group of players that I already have it'll bode really well for us and provide us hopefully with that strength in the group to challenge in every competition."
BBC Sport believe the fee will be in the region of £8M, with potential add-ons due to future performance placing an extra £3M on to the fee.
Borini made his first senior appearance in the Italian national side earlier this year, and was named in the Euro 2012 squad - but spent the tournament on the bench.
