Liverpool’s most pressing transfer issue appears to be whether to make a move for Ipswich Town’s young striker Connor Wickham. Sunderland have upped the ante by tabling a bid – believed to be £8M for the youngster.
It is now up to Liverpool to show how interested they are in the player.
Stewart Downing wants to move to Liverpool according to the media, but it appears he won’t arrive cheaply. Man Utd are set to conclude a massive £17M deal for Ashley Young, even though the player could leave for nothing in a years time. Downing meanwhile has a further 12 months on his contract, so it is likely that the reds will be asked to pay at least the same kind of figure.
Charlie Adam is still being linked with Liverpool, although fewer rumours have emerged in recent days. Speculation is now linking him more with a move to Aston Villa.
Dimitri Payet, the St Etienne winger who Damien Comolli knows well, is being linked with the reds again – as he was in January. A £10M bid could land the player.
Meanwhile the left back problem may be nearing a conclusion. Arsenal do not want Gael Clichy to come to Liverpool, reminiscent of United blocking Gabriel Heinze’s move a few years back. However the player could rebuff Roma’s overtures to force a move to Anfield.
