On the 14th December 1959, 50 years ago today, Bill Shankly took up his post at Liverpool Football Club as the new manager.
He began his task to revolutionise Anfield and Melwood and turn the 2nd Division drifters in to the eventual English champions and European giants.
To commemorate today, here is the second poem in our Shankly series. (Missed the first part? ’59-64: The Dynasty Began’)
65-69 “A Dynasty Of Infinity”
After winning the League
In ninety sixty four
Shankly’s pride of lions
Really began to roar
We went to Wembley
And beat Revie’s Leeds
With a St John winner
The Reds began to believe
Another League title
Found it’s way to Anfield
Before trophies dried up
But our wounds were healed
By Shanks and his words
And his Bastion Of Invincibility
His dream became true
A Dynasty Of Infinity
And now his second great side
Was in it’s early form
Led by the legend
Who made winning his norm
