ANFIELD TAKEOVER TALKS TODAY

Liverpool Football Club's board will meet today to discuss investment in the club by overseas buyers, as the club look to complete deals on both the stadium and investment in to the playing staff at Anfield.

The reds have been actively seeking new investment for over two years and have attracted recent interest from prospective buyers from Canada and Dubai.

Frank Gillett, the owner of the Canadian ice hockey team, the Montreal Canadians, and previously the owner the Harlem Globetrotters, is believed to be one of the interested parties along with the Dubai international capital group headed by Samurai Ansari.

The Liverpool board, who are growing increasingly anxious to attract new funds to finance the planned development of a new stadium scheduled to begin next year, will discuss the matter at a board meeting today.

But on Tuesday, when West Ham United announced they are to have new Icelandic owners, Benitez insisted he was unaffected by the potential boardroom changes.

“The board will do what is best for the club,” Benitez said.

“I have been given some information but I am not worried about this situation. There are people interested but that is normal for such a big club. This is not something I can control so I don’t think about it.”

And defender Steve Finnan echoed his manager’s views by claiming the players were unconcerned by the uncertain situation. “Nobody talks about it in the dressing room,” Finnan said.

“There have been plenty of stories about a possible takeover over the last few years so we don’t really take that much notice as players. If something does develop and something happens, then I am sure it will get mentioned in the dressing room.”
