REINA NAMED BEST KEEPER
Jose Reina has won the Barclays Golden Gloves Award for this season. And, in a prestigious double for the Reds, skipper Steven Gerrard has been named the League sponsors' Player of the Month for April. Goalkeeper Reina kept an impressive 20 clean sheets in the Premiership - more than Manchester United's Edwin van der Sar (18) and last year's Golden Glove winner, Petr Cech, of Chelsea (17). Brad Friedel (Blackburn Rovers) and Jens Lehman, of Arsenal (both 16), completed the top five. Barclays Sponsorship Director Matt Appleby said: "To win the Golden Gloves in his first Barclays Premiership campaign, and at such a young age, shows Reina's potential. "He has used this eason as a springboard onto the international scene and has seen off the challenge of world class players to keep the most clean sheets. "Reina has been part of an outstanding Liverpool defence that will surely build on their success to make a serious challenge for the title. "Steven Gerrard has also had a great season, hitting the peak of his form in April. Both are deserved Barclays Award winners." The Reds enjoyed an excellent April in the Premiership, winning 2-0 at West Brom, 1-0 at Blackburn Rovers, and beating both Bolton Wanderers and Aston Villa at home, 1-0 and 3-1, respectively. Gerrard scored twice against David O'Leary's men and led from the front throughout April. Talk about this news story with other fans in The LFC Forum |
