LIVERPOOL: POST DERBY REACTION It was a great win for us in the Derby today, even though we played most of the match with 10 men. We have now scored 18 goals in the last 10 days, an impressive tally, and we are 14 points ahead of this stage last season. Rafa Benitez: "Steven was really disappointed with himself, but really happy for the team," said Benitez. "He is a player with a lot of passion and always plays with 100 percent commitment, but sometimes you need to use your brain as well as your heart. "It was a mistake and he gives the team a lot of things and he can learn for the future." He added: "I must say thank you to our supporters and I am really happy for them because this was a massive win. "To play with ten men for most of the game at this intensity is difficult, but the players worked so hard and deserved this win. We showed a lot of passion and Luis Garcia and Harry Kewell scored fantastic goals. "We knew what to do with ten men against a physical and a good team. Crouch played well up front for us and held the ball up well and he had good support from Harry and Luis. "Xabi Alonso and Momo Sissoko controlled the midfield and we did a fantastic job as a team." David Moyes: "We didn't play as well as we should have done, we had a great opportunity today," Moyes told Sky Sports. "We had a mad five minutes either side of half time, really we should have been controlling the game, but found ourselves 2-0 down. "It wasn't a good day. "That period after Steven was sent off was probably our worst part of the game." Discuss this news item with other fans in our forum |
