ITALIAN GIANTS DENY GERRARD BID Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi has rubbished suggestions that the club will move for Steven Gerrard and William Gallas in the summer. The Old Lady of Italian football are romping towards another Serie A title and are also in the last eight of the UEFA Champions League, but this has not stopped the rumour mill from cranking into gear. Fabio Capello has put together a top-class unit which is strong in all areas and Moggi says there is no need to spend a vast amount on players such as Liverpool midfielder Gerrard and Chelsea defender Gallas. "Rumours that link us to Gerrard and Gallas are groundless," Moggi told Guerin Sportivo. "Why should we spend €20 or €25 million when from the defence, despite what is said, we have big guarantees from the players already in the group? "And we are also satisfied with the growth of young players like Balzaretti and Chiellini." Emerson and Patrick Vieira have proved a dominant pairing in the middle of the park this term and Moggi does not see any need to move for Gerrard. "When in the midfield you have Emerson and Vieira, there is no need to spend such a large amount of money on Gerrard," concluded Moggi. Discuss this news item with other fans in our forum |
