JULY 27 DEADLINE FOR REDS EURO CAMPAIGN
With Greek football currently under the FIFA spotlight, July 27 is the latest date by which UEFA will deal with Italian clubs punishment. The widespread match-fixing scandal in Italy could result in disqualifications or bans for some of Italy's top sides. Inter Milan are currently ranked higher than the reds in the 3rd qualifying stage but are believed to be the only Italian club in the Champions League not involved in the match fixing scandal. The 27th July is the date set by UEFA for national football associations to submit their lists of teams entered for European competition. If the recommendations of Stefano Palazzi, the federal prosecutor at the Italian match-fixing trial, are passed, then Inter Milan may be Italy's sole representatives in the Champions League. Palazzi sent shockwaves through Italy on Tuesday by asking for reigning Serie A champions Juventus to be relegated to at least Serie C, the equivalent of Coca-Cola League One, and handed a six-point penalty for next season. He has also suggested the three remaining clubs involved in the scandal - AC Milan, Fiorentina and Lazio, who finished second, fourth and sixth respectively last season - are demoted to Serie B, with the former docked three points and the latter duo deducted 15 |
