Liverpool will be looking to win this trophy for the third time, after victories in 1977 and 2001.

CSKA Moscow won last season's UEFA Cup after knocking out Benfica, Partizan Belgrade, Auxerre, Parma and in the final Portugese giants Sporting Lisbon 3-1.

CSKA currently lie 2nd in the Russian Premier League, 7 points adrift of Lokomotiv Moscow, with 37 points from their 21 league matches. They have lost only 4 matches in the Primera-Liga this season.

They will be representing their country in the UEFA Cup again this season after winning the Russian Cup four days after Liverpool won the Champions League.

Fortunately for the reds their Croatian hit man Ivica Olic has been ruled out of the game after sustaining a serious injury, leaving the Brazilian forward Wagner, and the midfielder Daniel Carvalho as the two main goalscorers in the side.
