The Liverpool manager has finally weighed in with what is effectively a thinly veiled warning to Steven Gerrard that his future decisions may well affect the rest of his football career.

"We always hear rumours about Steve," said Benitez.

"If you have the money and the supporters with you, all those positive things, you could lose them if you move to another club.

"You may be just one more player in another team, here at Liverpool you are the star.

"To change these things may not be wise, so why not carry on being the star?

"I know the value of these things and I have talked to Steve about it a few times."
