DIOUF: 'I'M NOT GIVING UP CONTRACT'

EL-HADJI DIOUF has told Liverpool he has no intention of giving up his lucrative contract despite their attempts to get him out of the club.

Anfield officials have been trying to offload the £10m flop all summer with moves to Portsmouth, Malaga and Real Betis all muted.

The Senegal international has not been given a squad number for the new season, was left out of the 23-man squad for the current tour of North America and his agent Alexander Kristic has been informed he does not figure in Rafael Benitez's plans.

Nevertheless, Diouf insists he wants a face-to-face meeting with the new Liverpool manager before moving on and will not give up the final two years of his contract without a fight.

"Until the manager, Benitez, returns from the tour of the United States and I have spoken to him face-to-face, I will not make a definitive decision on my future,'' said Diouf.

"I think I could have a chance if he gives me an opportunity.

"If that is not the case I will have to go on loan for a year, but I won't give up my contract. Things have been signed and all parties have to respect that."

Harry Redknapp this week revealed he still hopes to lure Diouf to Fratton Park, although the player himself is more in favour of a move to Spain.

''Spain is the best league in the world along with the English and is very attractive for a professional like me,'' he said..
