Liverpool have till 12 midday today to get Xabi Alonso through his medical, signed and receive international clearance if he is to take any part in the game against Manchester City on Saturday. That is looking unlikely therefore and he will probably make it in time for the Bolton game next week.

The player is believed to be in Liverpool and is expected to sign for the club today. Meanwhile it is believed the reds are chasing Luis Garcia from Barcelona. The talented winger is expected to move for a figure in the £6 million mark.

He could be the 4th Spaniard to join Liverpool since Benitez' arrival.
