BOSS: WE MISSED STEVIE G Gerard Houllier has admitted Steven Gerrard's absence from the Liverpool team against Chelsea possibly cost his side the chance of taking at least a point from the game. Gerrard was suspended for yesterday's game and will now make his first appearance of the season against Aston Villa next weekend - assuming he returns from England duty in midweek free from injury. "Obviously Steven would have made a difference for us yesterday," said Houllier today. "He's now joined with the England squad and I'm not going to interfere in what happens there and who plays. The rules have changed now so just because Steven was suspended for us doesn't mean he can't play for England. I think he probably will play. "All I know is I will be keeping my fingers crossed with all the internationals this week and hoping they return fit. "I'm very glad the England players will be flying back to Liverpool after the game on Wednesday night because they will be fresher than they would be had they had to travel for six hours from Ipswich. "Not only England play. Stephane Henchoz, John Arne Riise and Harry Kewell will also be involved in games." |
