Liverpool suffered defeat against Chelsea putting the club in serious jeopardy of failing to qualify for next season Champions League.
The reds have lost points against Everton, West Brom and Stoke in recent weeks before today's defeat at Stamford Bridge in a timid Premier League effort.
Strong line up
Klopp had stressed the importance of this game in his pre-match talk, and unlike some of the previous games he did go strong - selecting 10 of the players who started against Roma in mid-week.
The only change was Nathaniel Clyne in for Jordan Henderson, who was on the bench. The move meant that Alexander-Arnold pushed up into midfield.
It was a hot sunny afternoon across the UK ahead of the Bank Holiday and the reds started in lively fashion at the home of the former Champions.
Roberto Firmino got the first shot of the game away when he drilled a shot at Courtois from a tight angle in the third minute.
James Milner was lucky to avoid a yellow card for a foul on Eden Hazard after ten minutes as the games intensity waned early on.
Sadio Mane was looking the liveliest of Liverpool's front three and he had two shots in quick succession at the Chelsea keeper that were both palmed away.
But Chelsea, against the run of play, grabbed the first goal of the game. Victor Moses crossing in and Olivier Giroud outjumping Dejan Lovren for a peach of a header that was sent into the far corner.
As it happened: Chelsea 1-0 LFC
There was little more action in the first half - the reds ending the half with a spell of possession but none of it dangerous enough.
At the beginning of the second half Chelsea showed more determination. Victor Moses was a crucial part of the title winning side of last season and he found space at the corner of the area to fire in the first shot of the second period.
At the other end Liverpool were reduced to long distance shots - with Alexander-Arnold in his new midfield role attempting a couple of long shots that were nowhere near the target.
Liverpool attempted to attack more as the half wore on - Solanke was sent on for Robertson, Henderson on for Clyne, but by this stage Chelsea were comfortable to defend their goal.
Mo Salah endured another off day - these are starting to rack up since he has received both the PFA and Football Writers Player of the Year award.
Liverpool might now have to gain all three points at home to Brighton to be certain of Champions League next season - and after scoring 128 goals this season that almost looks careless.
