It has been a year since Liverpool last lost a game at Anfield but Swansea moved off the bottom of the Premier League with the reds worst result of the season.
The statistics show that Swansea had 3 shots on target and 3 goals but the 3 chances they were given were gilt-edged gifted by a defensively poor Liverpool. Clyne, Milner, Lovren and Klavan all had disappointing days which contributed to Llorente grabbing two and Sigurdsson adding the winner.
The first half had been cagey - 0-0 at half time as Swansea mounted a defensive rearguard that Liverpool prodded and poked at but didn't puncture.
Coutinho got his first start in the Premier League of the year, although Matip could only make the bench - the FIFA decision on his availability only late last night and too late for him to be prepared for today's game.
After a dull first half the game exploded in the second half. Within minutes it had come to life.
Lovren gave away a needless corner and from the resulting kick the reds failed to clear. Llorente poking in a shot when Fernandez won a header from a corner. Five minutes later the visitors had gone into an even more surprising 2-0.
The Swans new signing Tom Carroll's cross was sent in and Llorente easily outjumped a handful of Liverpool 'defenders' to head into the net.
Cue Liverpool and the supporters waking up from their 52 minutes early afternoon slumber.
Milner sent across a cross and Firmino powered home the header.
15 minutes later he scored the equaliser - again Milner involved with unleashing Wijnaldum down the left hand side. The former Newcastle winger then sent the ball across the area and Firmino controlled before unleashing his shot into the Kop goal net.
2-2. Could the reds turn this around?
Sadly not.
A couple of poor attempts were made to take the ball away from the onrushing Carroll. He eventually met Klavan but the ball only went sideways across the area. Nathaniel Clyne had taken his eye completely off Gylfi Sigurdsson who was now in acres of space and easily placed the ball past Mignolet.
The introduction of Sturridge and Origi did little to improve the reds and Matip receive the briefest of cameo's towards teh end.
Liverpool's rocky start to 2017 continues although the club remain in third place for now. Chelsea could increase their lead over Liverpool to ten points tomorrow.
The reds have 3 more games at home in the upcoming 10 days and must improve with two cup games included.
