Liverpool stopped the rot and ended a horrible 10 day period with a point against high flying Chelsea.
The reds have taken 4 points from the side who look odds on to become this years Premier League champions.
The pre-match talk was of a 4th consecutive Anfield defeat for the first time in almost 100 years but the reds showed glimpses of their normal selves on this final day of January.
Sadio Mane was named on the bench and came on in the final moments of the game but couldn't add to Liverpool's tally.
A game of two halves for the Liverpool keeper
Mignolet had a game of two halves. Chelsea took the lead midway through the first half, against the run of play, when Mignolet wasn't ready for a David Luiz direct free kick that sailed past him.
Wijnaldum headed the equaliser early in the second half as the reds looked for more direct routes to goal.
Diego Costa earned himself a penalty late on but his spot kick was a poor attempt and Mignolet recovered some of his confidence by diving low to save.
The reds dominated much of the possession in the early part of the game, as Chelsea defended like they had all season - effectively.
Eden Hazard managed to con referee Mark Clattenburg into awarding his side a free kick midway through the half. The Chelsea forward throwing his leg out at Adam Lallana. Clattenburg, in his defence, was behind the player.
Within seconds the ref had blown the whistle (Mignolet would later say he hadn't heard it) as the Liverpool keeper was still preparing his wall. Luiz dispatched the ball into the unguarded net to give the visitors an unlikely lead.
The reds came out better in the second half and were well worth their goal. Henderson finding Chelsea's weak point with a fine cross into the box that Milner sent back over to Wijnaldum to head in.
Firmino should have had two goals on the night - another good reds move reached him and he had more time than he thought. He snatched at the chance and put it over from inside the box. Later he would have a free header at the edge of the 6 yard box that was aimed straight at Courtois.
Mane's arrival finally came in the 75th minute, but seconds after his arrival, and Costa had won a penalty - he tumbled over Matip after a change of direction. His penalty in front of the Kop was weak and Mignolet dived correctly low at the right hand side of this goal to keep the scores level.
There was little further incident in the game with Klopp post match both expressing pleasure in the improved performance but also some disappointment that Liverpool couldn't take all 3 points.
Liverpool move on to 46 points on a night in which Arsenal were defeat and Spurs also draw against Sunderland.
