Hopeless and embarrassing – Liverpool beaten by Man United

Manchester United had an easy day at the office against a miserable lacklustre Liverpool side.

Liverpool looked good in the pre-match warm up but from the first whistle looked an embarrassing rump of a football team.

The pre-match team had only featured one change from the reds 3-0 defeat against West Ham - and that was an enforced change.  Danny Ings replacing the suspended Coutinho.

Would this be the return to 2 up front with Ings and Benteke in the side?

No.

Of course not.

Rodgers stuck striker Ings on the left wing, with attacking midfielder Firmino shunted on to the right wing.

When Liverpool managed to get the ball they pumped it up to the lone figure of Benteke.

It was a miracle that the reds made it to half time 0-0.

The second half was a different story as United grabbed the early goal - from a set-piece of course.  Daley Blind allowed  freedom at the edge of the box to fire past Mignolet.

Joe Gomez, the centre-back who we play at left-back, brought down Herrera who duly converted from the penalty spot to effectively end the game.

The reds had some late hope - Benteke finding the net with a spectacular overhead kick with five minutes to go.

But within a minute - United's expensive teenager Antony Martial, on from the bench, cut past Martin Skrtel to fire home United's third.

Liverpool now turn their attention to a Europa League tie on Thursday against Bordeaux.
