Liverpool end White Hart Lane curse with scintillating 5-0 performance

LFC stormed to a 5-0 demolition over Spurs after two impressive halves of football - emphatically ending a torrid run of results against Spurs at White Hart Lane.

Liverpool were forced in to one change - the injured Steven Gerrard being replaced by Lucas Leiva who has spent a few weeks watching on from the sidelines.  With Gerrard injured, and Agger on the bench, Suarez was named as captain for the day.

Memories of 6 consecutive defeats at White Hart Lane didn't appear to be bearing down too heavily on our players - as we started in fine form.

Lucas Leiva and Joe Allen controlled the midfield well - Lucas getting his hands dirty, and Allen distributing the ball neatly to the front men.  Their composure freed the shackles from Jordan Henderson who created all sorts of problems for Spurs - this was obviously not in Spurs tactical preparations.

Coutinho and Suarez traded positions frequently on the left side of the forward line, pulling open the Spurs central defence and giving Henderson even more opportunities to advance.

In the 18th minute the reds broke the deadlock.  Deservedly.

Suarez controlled the ball that Henderson had collected, skipped past a defender, before slotting the ball with precision into the bottom corner.

Liverpool had more chances, and Suarez had an even better one when he picked up a long clearance from Mignolet.  He probably should have hit first time with his left, his dragback to the right allowing the Spurs keeper time to position himself.

In the 40th minute, Jordan Henderson claimed a goal for himself.  After a few attempts he finally got the shot away and it sailed past the keeper to nestle in the right hand side of the goal.

Spurs were booed off at half time, but they weren't as poor as Liverpool were good.

Tottenham, after a minor reshuffle, did improve in the opening minutes of the second half - Soldado firing over in the first few moments.  But Mamadou Sakho also had a chance to score.

The Frenchman looks like he could be an intermittent goal threat, and he was unfortunate that his powerful header hit the corner of the Tottenham goal.

After utilising their third and final substitutes, Paulinho raised his foot at Suarez chest and received the almost mandatory red card.

Liverpool made the most of their one man advantage and dominated the rest of the game.  With Kenny Dalglish looking on in the stands it was time for a debut goal for one of the Liverpool players.

Henderson did well to retain the ball near the corner flag - a backheel to Suarez and the Uruguayan crossed it deep in to the box.  Running in was Jon Flanagan who smashed the ball into the top of the net.

The watching Dalglish enjoyed that one.

Clock running down? Suppose Luis Suarez hasn't scored for a while.

So in the 84th minute the Uruguayan decided to make it his 17th goal in his 11 Premier League games this season.

But there was STILL time for another Liverpool goal - and for his efforts and hard work Raheem Sterling deserved the reds fifth goal as he showed good composure to finish.

The reds power back into 2nd place, 2 points behind leaders Arsenal.
