Second big win for Liverpool at West Ham’s expense

Liverpool's second big Anfield win of the week helped us back up to 2nd place in the Premier League ahead of a tricky run.

In a game that featured three own-goals (perhaps one of which maybe should have gone down as a Luis Suarez strike)*, Liverpool continued their good form in the goalscoring department, making it 17 goals scored in the last four Anfield matches.

As is standard, the reds also conceded - you know how we all despise clean sheets!

Dropped points elsewhere at the top of the Premier League helped Liverpool end the weekend back into 2nd place at Chelsea and Man City's expense.

Losing Daniel Sturridge over the crucial December period is going to become more acutely felt as the month wears on - but Liverpool's treatment room will now also be frequented by Steven Gerrard who hobbled off injured before the hour mark against West Ham.  He is set to miss a good month of football - including massive away games at Spurs, Man City and Chelsea.

The reds only change in the West Ham game was £18M man Mamadou Sakho replacing an unwell Daniel Agger.

Liverpool didn't manage to take the lead until 3 minutes before half time.  Luis Suarez angled strike from inside the area parried by Jääskeläinen into the path of Demel who forced the ball over his own line.

Within two minutes of the start of the second half Mamadou Sakho connected to a Steven Gerrard free kick and his toe poke bounced over the line before Martin Skrtel added an extra touch.  The Slovakian celebrated but replays correctly awarded the goal to the Frenchman.

Gerrard was then taken off injured but Liverpool continued to dominate.

Raheem Sterling had a couple of great chances throughout but wasted some fine opportunities.

However against the run of play West Ham grabbed one back.  Matt Jarvis heading a cross back across the face of goal and in his determination to clear, Martin Skrtel put the ball past Mignolet.

Fortunately this was not the start of a comeback and Luis Suarez grabbed another goal - an excellent header from a Glen Johnson cross.

Kevin Nolan saw red shortly after for a ludicrous challenge on the back of Jordan Henderson's leg, and this gave Liverpool the impetus to add a fourth goal - Suarez's shot taking a decent deflection off O'Brien and into the net*.
