The reds rout began in the second minute when Agger put the reds ahead, and Liverpool never looked back.
Daniel Sturridge replaced Luis Suarez in the Liverpool line-up but the Uruguayan wasn't missed today as Liverpool ended a run of three consecutive draws to surpass last season's points tally with a few games to spare.
Liverpool might have problems missing their 30 goal a season striker - but Newcastle have got their own problems - Alan Pardew having an 8 year contract being one of them.
Liverpool raced out of the blocks from the first whistle and it wasn't long before a looping header from Daniel Agger gave Liverpool a deserved lead. Newcastle continued their disastrous attempts at playing the offside rule, and they could have been 2-0 behind when the short-sighted linesman incorrectly adjudged Daniel Sturridge offside.
No worries though because with a quarter of an hour gone Jordan Henderson was about to double the lead.
Sturridge and Coutinho combined perfectly before a nice pass sets up the advancing Henderson to slot into the empty net.
Bizarrely Liverpool only had a 2-0 lead at half time.
Alan Pardew made a couple of changes for the restart but it was about to get worse - much worse for Newcastle.
In the 54th minute Ben Arfa gave the ball to Coutinho on the half way line - and then he teases a few defenders before setting up Sturridge to bang the third goal home.
60th minute and Gerrard sends a ball over to Henderson (rapidly becoming a major attacking threat for LFC) who slips it in to Sturridge's path for the striker to score his second and Liverpool's fourth.
4-0 up and coasting.
In the 72nd minute, Gerrard is given a breather and Fabio Borini welcomed back in to the side after a long period out with injury.
Within seconds Coutinho passes to Downing, who cuts back the ball and Borini smashes it home for his first Liverpool league goal.
Such is Newcastle's failure to deal with Coutinho that a minute later Debuchy launches himself at the player - earning a second yellow card and an early bath. Newcastle down to ten men.
Henderson steps over the resultant free kick from just outside the corner of the penalty area and fires it in from a ridiculous angle. 6-0.
Most of the Newcastle fans were on their way home, but some stayed around to give a resounding boo to the manager, board or possibly the police horses.
Liverpool can reflect on a nice three points.
MOTM: Coutinho.
