Wolves 0-3 Liverpool

Torres scores Liverpool's 3rd goal after the reds put together 31 passes.

Liverpool put Wolves to the sword as the reds won their 2nd away game of the season, as well as picking up their first clean sheet in 8 games.

Kenny Dalglish’s first three league games read L – D – W, and all three have seen the reds score first.  Today, their improvement continued as they added a stunning 2nd goal (Meireles 2nd goal in 2 games) and a beautiful team goal for the 3rd, featuring 31 passes before Torres easily dispatched his 2nd of the game in the 90th minute.

The Wolves defeat at Anfield in December was the tipping point for the reds this season, a game which essentially saw the board begin to consider the replacement of Roy Hodgson who was fired a number of games later.

The arrival of Dalglish has not only pulled the fans back together – but has led to a huge upswing in the form of Raul Meireles and Fernando Torres, two of the reds more attacking threats.

The reds made one change from last weeks derby, with Poulsen replacing Spearing in the holding role just behind the midfield.

Wolves started brightly, but the reds were dominant in the first half.  Just after the half hour the reds got a deserved opener – Raul Meireles with a fantastic run (and Poulsen with the well timed defence splitting pass) beat the feeble offside trap saw him in acres of space.  He unselfishly found Torres who dispatched the ball away.

Last weekend the reds saw their 1-0 half time lead eroded within the first 7 minutes of the second half.  5 minutes in to the second half this time and the reds doubled their lead.  And it was a cracker.

An Agger free kick was headed out but only as far as Meireles, who volleyed from 25 yards in to the top corner.  Goal of the season contender.

A little bit of nervousness creeped in to the reds game, understandably after their misery on the road of late, but Reina didn’t have much to do.

As the game approached it’s end, Liverpool opted for a period of keep ball.  31 measured passes later and Torres passed the ball neatly and calmly in to the Wolves net for Liverpool’s 3rd goal.

A fine day for Liverpool’s travelling support and an excellent display from the reds who are showing glimpses of returning confidence.

Liverpool face Fulham at Anfield in their re-arranged game, and Kenny will be hoping to watch his first Anfield victory at the second attempt.
