Liverpool were held to a draw at Wigan as their jinx away at the DW Stadium continued, Charlie Adam seeing his tame second half penalty saved.
Before the game the reds players showed solidarity with Luis Suarez by training with a shirt with the Uruguayan’s number on the back, but they failed to offer sufficient support to the talented front man in the 90 minutes.
The reds did open the game in blistering form, the opening 20 minutes spell was one of Liverpool domination but were wasteful in front of goal.
Ali Al-Habsi, the Wigan keeper, did have an excellent game though throughout the full game – denying the reds with a couple of chances.
At the other end Pepe had little to do, however Wigan opted to try shots from distance and one from Diame swerved at the last minute – requiring Pepe to be on hand to punch it wide.
Suarez was felled in the 50th minute, but Charlie Adam’s penalty in front of the travelling Liverpool fans was weak and Al Habsi made the decisive save.
Dirk Kuyt was also guilty of a late miss sending the ball over from close range.
The reds remain 3 points off the top 4.
