Liverpool played their first pre-season friendly game last night and it was Danny Ings who scored the only goal of the game in the 78th minute.
Jurgen Klopp sent out two different sides in each half - the first half featuring three new signings pulling on the shirt for the first time.
Loris Karius in goal, Joel Matip in central defence and Sadio Mane up front. Matip was straight into the action and had a good introduction to English football. Karius had little to do whilst Mane looked lively - he laid a beautiful ball through to Ryan Kent that should have been dispatched by the youngster.
Whilst a lot of attention was on the new signings, 18 year old Ovie Ejaria had an excellent first appearance in a senior LFC side. He arrived from Arsenal at the age of 16 and was central to all of the reds good movement in the half. His good use of the ball saw him a dominant figure in the middle of the park.
Second half saw a different side sent out - Adam Bogdan getting another opportunity in the reds goal. Lazar Markovic had a golden opportunity to put his name back on the scoresheet but hit the post after a move combined with Danny Ings.
Ings suffered a laceration under his eye mid-way through the half and by the time his goal arrived a black eye was fully developing. Young scouser Alexander-Arnold fed a beautiful pass to Ings who dispatched with aplomb.
After the devasting injury Ings sustained just hours after Jurgen Klopp arrived - there could be no other player more fitting of the reds first goal of the campaign.
Last night's game was the last time the reds will play on Merseyside for 63 days. Putting that into perspective - last season ended with the Europa League final 53 days ago.
Next up for the reds - a step up two divisions - with a friendly against League One side Fleetwood Town on Wednesday evening.
