Liverpool 0-0 Bolton: Reds held at Anfield

A reshuffled Liverpool side were held to a 0-0 draw by Championship side Bolton in the 4th Round of the FA Cup.

The reds, the only English side currently left in 4 competitions, will have another game added to their fixture list in a deciding replay at Bolton.

Joe Allen and Glen Johnson returned to the starting line up - Lallana, Enrique and Manquillo also came back into the first XI but despite midweek suggestions about Mario Balotelli's return the Italian failed to even get a place on the bench.

The reds also welcomed back a couple of old familiar faces - former striker Emile Heskey started for the opponents and Jay Spearing, rumoured to be leaving Bolton, made a late substitute appearance.

Despite the changes in the reds team, Liverpool dominated the vast majority of the game.  With 68% possession, and for the second home game in succession the reds mustered over 20 shots.  9 were on target against Bolton's 0, but as has been the case for the vast majority of the season Liverpool just lack quality in terms of firepower.

The reds started with Sterling up front - before bringing on Fabio Borini late in the game.  But although both had chances - you have to wonder how many goals players of the calibre of Suarez and Sturridge would have put away.

Late on Jordan Henderson appealed for a penalty after a nudge by Jay Spearing, and the referee maybe should have handed a red card to Bolton defender Matt Mills after Lazar Markovic was brought down running towards goal.

But the reds remain in the cup competition for now and will see their name, alongside Bolton's, in Monday night's 5th round draw.

The replay will be played the week beginning the 2nd February.
