Liverpool return to action nearly 8 weeks after the end of last years Premier League season with another return to Switzerland.
Liverpool are without their Spaniards and Italian after their exertions in the Confederations Cup, and Mascherano also has till this weekend off.
The reds are expected to completely change the side at half-time to give all of the players an early run-out.
History
Liverpool have never played St Gallen before, but they are the oldest major team in Switzerland. The club was founded in 1879. They won the Swiss version of Division 1 last year.
The Swiss 10-team ‘Premier’ League opened last weekend and St Gallen beat Basel, widely acknowledged as one of the best two teams in Switzerland, 2-0.
Their new 20,000 seater stadium was opened in 2008 and the match is sold out.
