Liverpool and AS Roma have reached agreement on the transfer of 25 year old Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Yesterday news filtered through from Italy about a second bid of around £62M but overnight the reds increased their total offer to £66.8M (€75M) and AS Roma have accepted.
Again initial reports came from Italian journalists, before being confirmed by Paul Joyce at The Times.
The fee is likely to include a significant fee of approximately £55M with the rest of the deal linked to the players involvement at Anfield.
The fee will be paid over the next two years.
Discussions between the player and the club are underway, although it is understood that Alisson was already receptive to the move to Liverpool.
He spoke to Jurgen Klopp yesterday expressing his desire to join the club and Liverpool then increased their offer to reach the agreement.
He will travel to England tonight with a medical due to take place either on Friday or Saturday.
It had been rumoured that Chelsea had been linked with the player, but it is understood they have not made a bid. They are preparing to offload Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid for £31M along with a significant transfer of Eden Hazard.
Alisson has been spending time with his family on holiday since Brazil exited the World Cup but will now deal with his business with Liverpool before returning for the rest of his short summer break.
Alongside his compatriot Roberto Firmino, if all goes well, he could join the reds training following the conclusion of the tour in the United States.
The fee is easily the world record fee for a goalkeeper, outgunning both Gianluigi Buffon's €50M fee in 2001, and Man City's Ederson's £40M price tag last summer.
Those two are in fact, the only two goalkeepers to have ever cost more than £20M.
With Simon Mignolet expected to depart this summer, Danny Ward could be promoted to reserve keeper - with Loris Karius now widely expected to go out on loan in order to rebuild his confidence.
19 year old keeper Kamil Grabara has also been involved in pre-season preparations so far.
