Liverpool have been drawn to face the 2015/16 Premier League champions Leicester City in the League Cup.
The reds will now play Leicester twice in the space of four or five days.
The draw for this season's tournament happened earlier this morning in Beijing, China in a sign of both the power of sponsors and the desire to promote English football tournaments more widely.
The majority of Premier League clubs completed round 2 earlier this week - LFC were amongst those clubs in Europe who receive a bye into round 3.
But the reds were handed a tricky task - involved in one of just 4 all Premier League ties in the round of 32.
The reds have not played Leicester in a cup game for over 3 decades, with the 1986 League Cup 3rd round meeting ending 4-1 for LFC. That game however was held at Anfield.
The 3rd round cup tie will be played away at the King Power stadium - and the reds have lost on both of their last two visits to the ground. The Foxes beat the reds 2-0 as they powered towards the title in 15/16 and then beat the reds 3-1 last season, in the first game after sacking title winning manager Claudio Ranieri.
Ironically the reds game immediately following the League Cup game is a Premier League clash, against Leicester, at the King Power stadium.
Fixtures will take place the week beginning September 18th.
