Liverpool have added a further friendly to a packed pre-season schedule, travelling to Mainz on the 7th August.
The game at the Opel Arena, will see the reds return to the former home of manager Jurgen Klopp - Klopp spent an incredible 18 years with the club as a player and then manager.
It will be the final pre-season friendly before the reds kick off the Premier League season away at Arsenal.
The game kicks off the day after the reds face Barcelona at Wembley.
Reds chief commercial officer, Billy Hogan, said:
“We last played Mainz 05 in a friendly in 2006 so it will be great to meet them again this summer.
“Our fanbase in Germany has grown significantly and this will be a fantastic opportunity for our fans in Germany to see the Reds play a Bundesliga team.”
The reds trip to Mainz in 2006 for a pre-season friendly did not end well. The likes of Jermaine Pennant and Craig Bellamy were new signings at the time and Benitez' team lost 5-0 to the team managed by Klopp.
Earlier this summer Liverpool signed new goalkeeper Loris Karius from Mainz.
