Jurgen Klopp was asked in his pre-Sunderland press conference about Steven Gerrard announcing his retirement.
And the boss appeared to leave the door open for a potential Anfield return.
"One day in the future I am pretty sure there will be something to announce.
"The door is always open. If he wants, I’m sure he will, and if he wants to make whatever career then we want to help him.
"I like him, and if I can help him I will. In life you need space to jump into the next thing that is new.
“When something needs to be announced, we will announce it, then we’ll talk."
Gerrard left Liverpool in May 2015 - Klopp arrived in October 2015 but the LFC boss was asked how highly Steven Gerrard would be rated in LFC's history.
“I’m only here 14 months, how could I be the person to say how big these people are?
“I met a few, I already met Stevie, he’s a great person, far away from wanting to be a legend or be handled as a legend.
“He’s a top player. It’s not important what I think. It’s important what the people think."
We think he's up there with the very best.
