Liverpool's imposing central defender Joel Matip has rejected the chance to rejoin his international side.
German born Matip represented Cameroon at international level - featuring in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups - but has exiled himself from the national squad in recent years and even been accused of refusing to return calls from the international boss.
The reds will be without Sadio Mane for a large part of January and February due to the scheduled African Cup of Nations.
And despite attempts by Cameroon to lure Joel Matip back into the fold the media are reporting that he has told Jurgen Klopp he will be staying at Liverpool and not adding to his 27 international caps.
Matip has become a pivotal player for the reds in his short Anfield career to date.
Liverpool's two Premier League defeats, away to Burnley and Bournemouth both came in games that Matip did not feature - with the reds conceding 6 goals in those two matches.
The 24 year old had spent his earlier career at Schalke in the Bundesliga and arrived at Liverpool this summer on a free after the end of his contract at Schalke.
