Heartbreak for Danny Ings as his second Liverpool season is over due to injury

Danny Ings will miss the rest of Liverpool's season in a hammer blow to the striker's Anfield career.

It is just over a year since Ings was told he would miss all of last season. He had sustained a cruciate ligament injury just hours after Jurgen Klopp arrived.

The 24 year old Englishman suffered a cartilage injury to his right knee during a brief cameo against Spurs in the League Cup last midweek.

He had come on as a substitute to replace Divock Origi - scans in the past few days have now revealed the extent of his injuries.

LFC Injury List

This return to first team LFC action had arrived after extensive involvement in a full pre-season and his efforts regaining his form with the Under 23's.

The Liverpool manager expressed his sadness at Ings' injury:

"To say we are gutted would be an understatement.

"He is such a great boy and has worked so hard that he deserves better luck than this.

"It is typical of Danny's personality, on and off the pitch, that he picked up this injury to his knee when courageously trying to win the ball back for his team by making a tackle.

"But it is this same personality that means he will come back as good and as strong from this latest setback as he has done in the past.

"He is mentally strong, physically strong and will have the very best treatment and rehab possible to make sure when he returns he is ready to play for us at the level we know he is capable of."

The player will undergo surgery tomorrow and will hopefully be returning sometime before the beginning of next season.

Ings has suffered a similar injury before whilst at Burnley when cartilage damage to his knee ruled him out for 6 months.

We wish Danny all the very best in his operation and recovery.

His teammates, former teammates and even former club have been amongst those also wishing him all the best.
