Emre Can, Liverpool's number 23, wants to be remembered at the club like the previous wearer of the shirt Jamie Carragher.
In an interview to be broadcast by the BBC's Football Focus on Saturday the German midfielder spoke about his time at LFC.
"It was huge (to take the number 23). I know that Carragher is a legend here in Liverpool and hopefully I will be as well.
"If you see the number 23 then a lot of legends have that number like Michael Jordan, Carragher and Beckham and I want to be a legend one day as well.
"That's why I try always to give my best and you will see what happens.
Emre has recently returned after a minor injury but has been one of LFC's most used players in the past 2 seasons - only Mignolet and Nathaniel Clyne have spent more time wearing the shirt for the reds this season.
His first season was one spent in numerous positions - from a more advanced central midfielder in front of Gerrard - to many games in defence as centre-back as well as a position in Brendan Rodgers trialled back three.
This season however he has settled into the central midfield role and could be an important member of Germany's Euro 2016 campaign.
I loved Can under Rodgers, but I love him more under Klopp. He is the ideal players for Klopp, young strong talented. Now he has secured a solid position in the starting line up he is sure to become an all time liverpool legend. The only thing that may stop him are injuries or if Bayern come in to try and sign him. Fingers crossed we stay high in the premier league and get solid Champions league access and we can keep hold of players in his bracket.
