Liverpool FC will 'carefully monitor Daniel Sturridge's fitness' for the rest of the season with the focus on securing his long term career at Anfield.
Effectively Sturridge's season looks to be over.
The injury-ravaged forward was rewarded with a lengthy contract extension earlier this season despite a substantial injury record.
Brendan Rodgers, speaking at a press conference previewing Tuesday's game against Hull said:
"When he's been fit he's been brilliant for the team, the key now is to see if we can get him back fit and consistently playing. We'll see if that's going to be this season or the pre-season.
"We'll do what's in the best interests of him; we have to protect Daniel and make sure he's going to be here over the next number of years, playing and playing to the level that we all know he can."
Sturridge has scored 5 goals in 18 appearances for Liverpool this season. He was out injured for the whole of Liverpool's Champions League campaign.
