Glen Johnson set for a lengthy spell on the Liverpool sidelines.
The reds right back sustained an ankle injury in a challenge with Patrice Evra in the reds victory over the men from Old Trafford.
Glen was originally due a scan the following day, but the swelling took so long to abate, that decent results from a fresh scan could only be made in the last few days.
The player is likely to be unavailable until early December, although Johnson has one of the better records amongst Liverpool's players in beating the medical prognosis.
The reds face crucial games against Everton and Arsenal, as well as a quick rematch against Man United in the League Cup.
Speculation amongst fans after transfer deadline day centred on whether Rodgers is considering a switch to 3 centre-backs - this injury to Glen Johnson (and with Aly Cissokho out injured) could expose an opportunity to try it.
Liverpool travel to Swansea next Monday, hopefully without any further bad injury news.
