BT Sport will televise Steven Gerrard's testimonial ahead of their debut season of Premier League TV coverage.
The reds take on Olympiacos at Anfield on the 3rd August and BT Sport see it as the perfect curtain raiser to the season - a season which will see the telecommunications firm branch into televised football - showing 38 Premier League games per year.
Simon Green, the head of BT Sport said:
“We are thrilled to be kicking off our live football coverage on BT Sport with this testimonial for the England captain, who is one of the greatest current players in the game.
“This testimonial should act as a perfect curtain raiser for the coming season and a first opportunity for football fans to experience what BT Sport will have to offer over the coming years.”
The money from BT, along with other money raised on the day will benefit Steven Gerrard's charity foundation.
The Liverpool captain added:
“I am delighted that BT Sport will be showing my testimonial live and that this will help to raise more money for the important work of my foundation.”
Going to be good to have another broadcaster challenge Sky.
Unlike Setanta, BT should have a good installed customer base and clearly have the finances to offer healthy competition.
Also good that Gerrard’s charity will get a few more dollar out of it!
