Agger’s season is over but his future is still with Liverpool

Daniel Agger is to miss the final games of Liverpool's season but plans on being here next year.

The Dane has enjoyed his best ever season in terms of injury-avoidance, starting every league game bar a one game suspension.

But back trouble has caught up with the player who has been less effective in the past two months due to ongoing back problems which at one point threatened an early retirement.

A Liverpool Football Club statement read:

“The club's medical team and associated specialists have decided to undertake a series of elective injections to enhance the stability of the defender's back.

“Undergoing the treatment means he will miss the remaining fixtures against Fulham and Queens Park Rangers.

There have been rumours that Daniel Agger may be another play heading to the Anfield exit but earlier in the day he scotched these rumours.

"I still have three years left and I intend to fulfil them.  There are always rumours, but who is creating them? I don't know.

"It is not a bad thing to be linked with top clubs but you have to take 70 per cent (of the speculation) off and then you have the reality."

With Carragher set to retire, and Skrtel seemingly out of favour - Liverpool may need another 35 league appearances from Dan next season.
