Jose Mourinho, who brought Brendan Rodgers into the Chelsea youth setup in 2004, has expressed his pleasure in seeing Rodgers handed the job at Liverpool.
"I am very happy with his appointment, especially because he did it as a consequence of all his amazing work at Swansea.
"Brendan is a good man, a family guy and a friend.
"When he joined us at Chelsea he was a young coach with lots of desire to learn.
"But he was also a coach with ideas, who was ready not just to listen but also to communicate and share."
Rodgers spent four years at Chelsea before finally taking charge of a senior team, when he moved to Watford in 2008.
Well done Liverpool. As a Chelsea fan, this story came up on Chelsea Newsnow and I have to say your board has made the right decision for your club. Brendan did wonders at Chelsea for four years and was hugely respected. As you know from his Swansea team, his teams play attractive but solid football. I hope he gets the funds to shape your squad and no joke, I hope you get back up there (just not above us please ha ha) Seriously; he could be the man.
