Maxi Rodriguez signs out of Anfield

Maxi Rodriguez finally completed his return to his first club, Newell's Old Boys in Argentina, and has left Liverpool FC.

Maxi Rodriguez completes a hat-trick

In an open letter published on the official website Maxi wrote:

Dear Reds, I am leaving Liverpool FC today.

Before signing for LFC, I just saw the club as one of the greatest institutions in football. After my time here I can confirm that this is not just a great club but also a great family.

I have tried to give everything every day that I was wearing the LFC crest. It has been a great honour to defend this shirt during two and a half years. I am returning home with a suitcase full of great memories, good friends within the team and also within this great family that works every day in the club. Thanks a lot for your support. You can NOT imagine what a great honour it was for me when the Kop sang, 'Maxi, Maxi Rodríguez runs down the wing for me da da da da dada...'

Hasta la vista.

Maxi

It was Rafa Benitez who signed Maxi on a free transfer in January 2010 from Atletico Madrid.  He scored 17 times in 73 appearances - including 2 hat-tricks 6 days apart under the stewardship of Kenny Dalglish.

There was talk last summer about him returning to his original club - but he gave Liverpool an extra season before making his move.

We would like to wish Maxi all the very best for the rest of his career.

  1. A good player with a good brain. He played well considering all the pressure of playing for LFC. Downing, Henderson (although he is still young) were not better than Maxi to be starting in the first 11. Should definitely have come off the bench in almost every game that Liverpool were trailing. But the fact is that if you want to play for Liverpool you get your chance, just like all us fans who dream of it, which is why Downing started more than Maxi. Maxi did come out last summer saying he would leave if he didn’t get enough time on the pitch. Dalglish with his stubborn bullish approach thought “hey this player doesn’t deserve a good chance to play, no player is bigger than the club.” So there is no one else now to pester Downing and Henderson with Competition on the wings. That’s just great.

    • What utter garbage. Dalglish signed Nolberto Solano at Newcastle, pretty sure his English wasn’t too sharp. The manager has a vision. Until it is deemed an utter failure, all those associated with the club should buy into it. but guess what? they didn’t. Good luck to Brendan Rodgers, but he will have to do excpetionally well to better Liverpool’s achievements last season.

  2. well it’s one of those things in football but it is a heart failing to loose these type of player in these point in time that Lfc  need some one like him (Maxi) but because of kenny dalglish foolishness we now loose Maxi who still many thing in him to deliever to us but i wish him all the best in where ever he goes.bye Maxi i wish u and your family best of luck.
