A youthful reds reserves side put in a solid performance against a much more senior looking Everton side, with the game ending 0-0 at Goodison Park.
Everton fielded several of their senior players including Leon Osman, Jack Rodwell, Victor Anichebe, Seamus Coleman, Phil Jagielka and James McFadden, as the reds continued their preparation for the Next Gen Series Semi Final against Ajax on Saturday.
17 year old Raheem Sterling in particular continues to show maturity beyond his years on the pitch with another impressive display – causing constant problems down the wing and in front of goal.
Eccleston and Coady also impressed for the reds second string team and coach Rodolfo Borrell said after the game:
“I am delighted with the lads, they played some good football and were unlucky not to win. We created some great chances but the Everton goalkeeper made some excellent saves.
“To play like that against an experienced team gives us a lot of encouragement for the future.”
LFC Team: Jones, McLaughlin, Mendy, Sama, Wisdom, Coady, Suso, Roberts, Eccleston, Adorjan, Sterling.
It would be nice to see some of these youngsters getting a chance in our 1st team.
