Liverpool have replaced reserve team boss John McMahon with the Academy Director Pep Segura, who will take over as caretaker, until the summer.
The Under 16’s coach, Steve Cooper, will assist him.
The statement from the club read
“The club have conducted a thorough review of all operations based at our academy as part of our overall strategy to constantly improve our youth and professional player performance.
“We have a clear vision of the way ahead and a number of changes will now be put in place to help us to build on the considerable progress already made.
“Pep Segura will step in as reserve-team manager on a temporary basis for the remainder of this term only, before a revised structure is put in place this summer.
“He will be assisted over the next few months by Steve Cooper.”
John McMahon is the older brother of former reds midfielder, Steve, and moved to Liverpool in the summer of 2009 as part of a radical shake-up at the Academy.
Liverpool reserves currently lie in 2nd place in the Barclays Premier Reserve League (North) with two games in hand over leaders Sunderland. The winners meet the winners of the Southern League in a play off to determine the champions. However, the reserves have failed to win their last two games. The decision however is not believed to be based on results.
Rumours have been circulating for the past few days that John McMahon was to be replaced, with suggestions that there were several disagreements over which players should feature for the Under 18’s and who should feature for the reserves.
