Liverpool City Council have extended the option on a lease for Stanley Park, the site of a potential new Liverpool FC stadium.
The original option expired in June, but the council declared that LFC had undertook sufficient work to still be in with a chance of taking over the site.
Liverpool, and new owners Fenway Sports Group, are currently considering the options of a ground redevelopment or a new stadium on Stanley Park, adjacent to the existing Anfield.
Liverpool would pay £300,000 a year to lease the site, and the council have already suggested that they would prefer the club to build a new ground, rather than redevelop Anfield. Planning permission will need to be sought for any changes to the existing 44,000 seat stadium.
According to The Guardian, the extension however is only valid for 3 months – meaning that Liverpool will need to continue to prioritise the decision on the future of the stadium.
