Liverpool have completed a deal to bring in Millwall’s youth goalkeeper, Yusuf Mersin.
The 16 year old has represented Turkey at Under 17 level and will join the rest of the Academy players.
Millwall’s manager Kenny Jackett said:
“We will do everything in our power to keep our best young players.
“However, in a case such as this, it is impossible to stop a boy leaving when a club such as Liverpool makes an offer.”
“We have secured financial compensation which will enable us to nurture and bring through other promising players for Millwall.”
The reds also moved to bring in Kristoffer Peterson, a Swedish striker, also aged 16, from Savedalens IF. The deal was first planned back in April 2010, following an initial three week trial of the player.
At the time Kristoffer said:
“I am no longer just toying with the dream. It feels like the club really want to give me a chance.”
Liverpool lost both Lauri Dalla Valle and Alex Kacaniklic from the youth set up as part of the deal to bring Paul Konchesky to Anfield, and these two youth signings are an effort to re-bolster the Academy ranks.
