Liverpool have warned off Real Madrid after rejecting a pitiful £20M offer for the reds midfielder last week.
With the season rapidly advancing Benitez is in no mood to conduct a last minute search for a replacement and Liverpool have told Madrid not to submit a new offer unless the figure is nearly doubled.
Much of the Liverpool squad returned to training on Sunday, with some key players such as Gerrard likely to return tomorrow. The Spanish contingent will return to the squad on the 19th July because of their Confederations Cup exploits.
Rafa is still privately seething over not only the actions of Madrid and Barcelona in ‘tapping up’ the players and agents over the summer, but also at Mascherano and Alonso for their own remarks to the media.
Real Madrid have also had a £3M offer for Arbeloa rejected, being told to come back if they can find £8M. Madrid have concluded the transfer of defender Raul Albiol in recent weeks which may cloud the waters over the Arbeloa transfer, as Albiol is capable of playing at right back.

It would be wonderful and good for the game as a whole to see Real left disappointed!.Eventually someone will have to stand up to bullies like Real Madrid and Barcalona who steal the best players of other tope sides every season.

Some of the Dutch players are a good choice as other have said. Huntelaar would be a good one although i am not convinced about sjneider as a find him lazy if things are not going his way. he can allow the game to pass him by when he is not playing to his potential and this would turn out to be another Luis Garcia…brilliant at times but 80% of the time not really in the game. A Title winnign team cannot afford to have these players in the starting 11. keep masch and xabi and i’d like to see a pacey winger…possibly aaron lennon or ashley young. would be good to have 2 england players playing together on the right

I think we should look at some of the Dutch players Real are likely to offload now Ronaldo, Kaka and Benzema have all signed for them. Big no to van Nistelrooy but Huntelaar or Sneijder could be quality additions to our squad in my opinion.

This is just a cover. An attempt to hike the price up, particulalry on Xavi. A deal has been agreed in principle for weeks, at least with the player anyway. All that remains is for the two clubs to agree a fee. We won’t sell for the paltry £20m that has been quoted in some quarters, but neither will we get the £40m Rafa has slapped on Xavi’s head. The true fee will be closer to £28m so I’ve heard.
Rafa has began looking for a replacement with the Marseille captain Lorik Cana top of the list. He would cost somewhere in the region of £8-£10m.

No need to sell our Stars from midfield. Who out there is even close to Masher an Xabi anyways.In an ideal world we could improve our midfield backup, although Lucas is improving each run out he gets as is Jayo Spearing.
Hopefully now the Rumour Mill will grind to a halt an Rafa can pull one out of the bag an come up with a little Xtra either on the wing or up front. Who know maybe both if we shed a few fringe players. We only need a little Tweak to bring back the Glory Days the sooner the better our Money Men realise this the better. It’s gonna Happen 4 Sure we’ll rule once more.

I agree that those attempts are ridiculous for the quality of players Real is trying to buy from us, but we also need to start making moves if we want to get any more help to win the title next year. I don’t see why we have not yet looked into the dutch players that Real is talking about dropping anyway. Sjnider, Van de Vart and Huntaleer could all be quality additions to our attacking midfield And if Van Nistelrooy stays healthy he would be a quality strike partner for Torres.
