Rising Anfield starlet Emiliano Insua will be away from Liverpool for a month as he heads off to the Under-20 South American Championships with the Argentinian national side.
Insua has gradually moved ahead of Andrea Dossena, the £7 million summer signing, in the left back pecking order and has been hugely impressive in recent games which has saw the reds performances dramatically improve.
The player will be away until February 8th, missing vital clashes against Everton and Chelsea.
With Fabio Aurelio only just recovering and Arbeloa and Degan still out injured, the reds are looking very thin on the ground in terms of full backs.
Reds reserve defender Ronald Huth has also travelled to the tournament to represent Paraguay. It all kicks off on the 19th January.
Both players will leave before the end of this week.
Anfield Online wishes both players a succesful and injury free tournament.
Culcul i agree with both points but if the lad is looking to break into the argentina 1st team he needs to do what he must in the under age sides, rafa could push jamie to the left if Aurelio does get injured again,Arbeloa
is due back soon so this will give rafa more options in the back line
What a joke???????
He will possible end up marking Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck.
Good sign though if Argentina are calling him up.
One more thing on a positive note, Dossena had started to look better than he did earlier in the season, lets hope he starts playing up to his price tag
I agree with Jim and another thing I think that only players that play in their own countries leagues should be eligible to play for that country, we (england) would lose Beckham but so what. All the players that want to play in this league would have to give up playing for their country. That cheating C*** ronaldo wouldn`t be allowed to play for Portugal unless he fecked off and played for sporting or someone (just dreaming)
I think Rafa should try to block this call up but it was surely to be expected, Rafa must have known that this tournament was coming up and Insua was always likely to be picked whether hes in the Liverpool 1st team or not! It is a shame because he was starting to show real promise of making the left back slot his own. Jim is going a bit over the top, its only a month, thats 4,5 games, weve still got Aurelio whose decent enough. It does only leave us with 1 left back though because Dossena has been a disaster!
I am in full agreement with Jim above, there is no way we should be letting any player go for a meaningless tournament at such a critical part of the season, with some very big games coming up. What is Rafa doing allowing this? Absolutely crazy. El Tel
I think that Insua is the best left back at Anfield at the moment, but this Argentina’s call will give him lots of experience and hopefully he will be back will an improved style of play. Degen and Dossena must leave Liverpool because they are not good at all.Carra will continue to play on the right until Arbeloa returns so the right side is not a problem. What’s also important for us is that El Nino returns back to his best before the crucial games coming up agaisnt Everton,Madrid and Chelsea…
The South American U-20 championship ?!! Is someone bull******** us ?!! Surely we can’t be under a duty to give up a player for a full month mid-season for such a nothing competition as this. I’ve sung Insua’s praises for the last few weeks but anyone who leaves us in the lurch for a whole month mid-season for a tournament like this should go straight to the back of the queue upon his return. Seriously regional kiddie’s tournaments cannot be allowed to take precedence for a full month mid-season over the club who pays the player’s wages. This is ridiculous and we should be sticking up for ourselves instead of letting it happen.
AT A most important time of the season we need Insua more than Argentina we have a run of very important games coming up,he is just establishing himself in the first team and is prefered to the hapless Doseena who looks a bad buy
Rafa shouldn’t have released him. He’s the best left-back at ANFIELD.
It’s a real shame as far as Liverpool are concerned, just as he was beginning to establish himself in the first team, we lose him for a month.
I just hope Aurelio doesn’t get injured again whilst he’s away.
Extremely good experience for Insua and Huth though, I wish them both all the best.
i think “T” i completly right.
we can’t afford to have just one left back in our squad.
what if aurelio get injured?
Use stephen darby to play right back so you can give him a chance to get into the 1st team. This is the perfect chance for a 1st team chance.
Call back insua, auriello is going to ruin the defence.
Thank god Aurelios back.
Yes no doubt he will come back injured. This should be stopped he looks like a player capable of holding that position.
Rafa should block this call up.
We cant afford to just have Aureilio as our only established left back.
We all know Dossena is not up to the task.
