With 2 young centre-backs at the club in Agger and Skrtel, and with a ‘semi-young’ Carragher still around – Liverpool look set to move to replace Sami Hyypia’s role in the Liverpool back-line.
Obviously, Hyypia can never be replaced, but further cover for central defence is required – especially with the confirmed departure of youngster Jack Hobbs to Leicester City on a permanent deal.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Sylvain Distan of Portsmouth, is the man to add some cover to the reds defence and it is understood Liverpool are readying a £2 million bid for the player.
The 31 year old Portsmouth defender has one year left on his contract and recently was quoted saying:
“Right now I expect to be here next season but I’m not in touch with anyone and tomorrow things can change.
“There may be a new manager with his players and I won’t play. A lot of things can happen in the coming months.
“All I want to do is go away on holiday, relax and refresh my mind and then I will come back and see what happens.”
Distan has spent time at Newcastle on loan, five years at Man City and the past two seasons with Portsmouth – helping them to their FA Cup win last season.
