Today marks what would have been the 90th birthday of Liverpool’s most successful manager and one of the most well decorated football managers to have ever graced the game.
After Bill Shankly’s surprise retirement, it was Bob Paisley OBE who made the first step up from the boot room in what would help Liverpool dominate English football for the next two decades.
His 9 seasons in charge brought 6 titles, 3 European Cups, 1 UEFA Cup, 3 League Cups, 5 Community Shields and a UEFA Super Cup. 19 trophies in 9 years.
Sir Bob, as he rightly deserved but was never awarded, is never far from discussions on the world’s greatest managers and only last year Liverpool supporters raised funds and helped unveil a commemorative plaque in the town of his birth in Hetton-le-Hole.
