Riera predicting a riot

New Anfield winger Albert Riera’s job at Anfield is to supply our misfiring strikers with the ammunition in front of goal, and after a couple of weeks alongside Torres and Keane he is convinced that the recent goal drought is just a blip.

‘It’s only the beginning. It’s a long season and we must be patient – I’m sure we will get better but the most important thing is how we finish the season’, said Albert.

‘The thing with Fernando and Robbie is every player has periods when they don’t score – but they are fantastic players.

‘The only problem is that the shots aren’t going in for them at the moment, but I’m sure they will score a lot of goals.

‘Stoke was a very difficult match for the forwards. Sometimes they had a line of nine men defending so it was hard to break through.

‘We knew before the match it would be like that so it wasn’t a surprise. We tried many times to score but it was one of those typical games where if you don’t score quickly it becomes more and difficult because they just get more and more men behind the ball.’

  2. Well said. Have people all of a sudden started to forget that it is becoming harder every year to win the league. Under Rafa we have amassed enough points to have easily been crowned champions in years gone by and along the way we have broken many club records, too numerous to mention, records that were originally set when we were the finest team in the land. What does this tell you? Obviously, the standard has gone up. As good as some of our teams were back in the mid / late 80’s would they seriously have competed at the top end of the premier league in todays game? Personally I don’t think so. I’m not saying the current team is the finest we’ve ever had, but the game has changed and I would fancy this team to have beaten the title winning side of 1989/90 if only through sheer power, pace and fitness. All ofmthis progress, has been achieved on a fraction of the budget spent by Man utd and Chelsea. i won’t include Arsenal in that assessment because as good as they can be, they have done no more in terms of winning trophies in the last 4 seasons than we have, in fact I think we have probably won more. Give Rafa a chance, he’s getting there!

  3. yeah ok Imran…
    Reina,Macherano,Agger,Alonso,Torres,Skrtel,Babel were really bad signings???
Keane has been here 2 minutes and Aurelio looks good when not injured, you talk some crap… if your so bitter about Rafa go support Everton!

  4. Wonderful!.The only thing is that we hear this every season yet continue to struggle against the likes of Stoke and Crewe!.Rafa will probably now say that we still need a few quality players before we can seriously be considered as title contenders!.This is a simple way to deflect the attention on the owners and hold them responsible for his own activity in the transfer market.
Aurelio,Kuyt,Keane,Pennant and Lucas are a few reasons as to why Rafa should be shown the door for he’s just another Houllier.
Oh well, atleast he got rid of Bellamy and Voronin.
