It was fitting that Liverpool’s star studded number 9 should cap the end of a long, but hugely impressive season, with the winning goal in the European Championships.
It was Torres first half goal, showing all the power and pace that he has honed in the Premiership with Liverpool last season, that separated his Spain from Ballack’s Germany.
Despite the lack of David Villa partnering him up front, Torres excelled yet again as the lone striker, casting further doubt on the reds need to land another striker this summer.
Spain were terrific throughout the tournament, and the reds current star Xabi Alonso also took part in the final.
Liverpool fans have practically emptied the city centre stores of Spain shirts over the course of the tournament and ‘Torres 9’ has been by far the most popular name on people’s backs.
Well done Spain. And well done to all the Liverpool players in the Spanish side. This red hopes you ALL return to Anfield in a few weeks time.
